Anatomy Of The Vastus Lateralis Muscle

Video describes the Anatomy of Vastus Lateralis Muscle which is a part of Quadriceps Femoris. Vastus lateralis originates from the greater trochanter of the femur and from the lateral lip of the Linea Aspara. It loops around the shaft of femur from the posterior to anterior towards its insertion with the Quadriceps tendon and inserted into the lateral base and border of patella. Nerve Supply is by Femoral Nerve (L2,L3,L4) and Blood supply by Descending branch of lateral femoral Circumflex Artery. Primary Action of Vastus Lateralis is Knee Extension. Since the muscle does not cross the hip, it does not cause hip flexion.
