Muscles of the plantar aspect of the foot:
Muscles of the plantar aspect of the foot are divided into four layers.
First layer: 3 muscles
- Flexor digitorum brevis muscle.
- Abductor digiti minimi muscle.
- Abductor hallucis muscle .
Second layer :2tendons/ 5 muscles
- Flexor digitorum longus tendon
- Flexor hallucis longus tendon
- Quadratus plantae muscle.
- 4 lumbrical muscles
Third layer:3muscles
- Flexor hallucis brevis muscle (medial head and lateral head ).
- adductor hallucis muscle .( transverse head and oblique head)
- flexor digiti minimi brevis muscle
Fourth layer : 7muscles/2tendons
- 7 interosseous muscles. –(3 plantar and 4 dorsal )
- tibialis posterior tendon
