Anatomy of Flexor Carpi Ulnaris

Origin

• The FCU arises from 2 heads:
• The humeral head from a common flexor tendon origin of the medial epicondyle and the ulnar head from the olecranon and posterior border of the ulna.

Insertion :

• It inserts on the pisiform bone, the hamate, and the 5th metacarpal bone

Action:

• Flexes and ulnar deviate the hand at the wrist

 

Nerve supply:

• Ulnar nerve (C7 & C8) passes between the 2 heads of Flexor Carpi Ulnaris in contrast to the median nerve which goes between the heads of the pronator teres.
