Anatomy of Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Origin
- The FCU arises from 2 heads:
- The humeral head from a common flexor tendon origin of the medial epicondyle and the ulnar head from the olecranon and posterior border of the ulna.
Insertion :
- It inserts on the pisiform bone, the hamate, and the 5th metacarpal bone
Action:
- Flexes and ulnar deviate the hand at the wrist
Nerve supply:
- Ulnar nerve (C7 & C8) passes between the 2 heads of Flexor Carpi Ulnaris in contrast to the median nerve which goes between the heads of the pronator teres.
