*STRUCTURES INSERTED INTO FIBULAR HEAD
1. Lateral collateral ligament
• most anterior structure that is inserted into fibular head
2. Popliteofibular ligament
• comes down from the popliteus and inserts into fibular head
3. Biceps femoris tendon
• most posterior structure inserted into fibular head
• common peroneal nerve lies posterior to it
*STRUCTURES OF POSTEROLATERAL CORNER OF KNEE
1. Popliteus muscle
2. Popliteofibular ligament
3. Lateral collateral ligament
4. Biceps femoris tendon
In conjunction with PCL these structures act as a restraint to external rotation and posterior translation of tibia. An isolated injury of poster lateral corner is rare and often causes instability and varus thrust. Usually this injury is combined with cruciate ligament injury, more with PCL than ACL. Failure to identify the poster lateral corner injury in cases of PCL or ACL injury will lead to failure of PCL or ACL reconstruction
Poster lateral corner injury is usually diagnosed by performing dial test(in prone position with knee in 30 degree flexion)
