Anatomy of anconeus muscle
Introduction-
- Small triangular muscle at the elbow area
Origin –
- Posterior aspect of the lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion
- Olecranon of ulna as well as proximal ulna
- Variable in distance 4 to 9 cm
Nerve supply –
- Radial nerve
It can be palpated in the dorsal lateral aspect of the forearm
Sometimes partially or completely blended to triceps muscle
Function –
- Extension of elbow
Anconeus is part of Arsen Pankovich Surgical Approach to the Elbow
- Approach to elbow joint and proximal part of radius and ulna –
- Incision of 4 to 9 cm
- Extensor carpi ulnaris and anconeus interval is identified an reflected
- Therefore ulna and radius can be approached this way
